Sports College

KS3 pupils at the 'David Beckham Football Academy'
A new era for Sincil School. . .
On the 16th July 2009 The Sincil School was designated as a 'Specialist Sports College'. Formal operation began from 1st September 2009 when Sincil School, which only opened in May 2006; became the 10th Sports College in Lincolnshire, the 2nd special school in the county to be designated as a Sports College and the county's 1st SEBD School to be granted a 'mainstream' specialism! This is testament to the hard work of staff and pupils throughout the school in the last 3 years and particularly the work of the PE staff, the dedication of the pupils in the subject and a true reflection of the schools ethos. What is a 'Sports College'?
A Specialist Sports College is a School which recognises and evidences PE and Sport as the strength and lead subject in its school. It aims to build on this strength by sharing good practice across its curriculum, especially with its second specialism. At Sincil School this is Science. Beyond our own school we are developing a partnership of 1 secondary and 4 primary schools with whom we will work closely to target cohorts amongst whom we will implement strategies for raising standards in attainment, this will work alongside the wider community element of our bid which takes our specialist work beyond the immediate education system.Who does our designation impact on?
The Sincil School's Sports College plans uses the power of Sport and Learning to impact directly on its' pupils across the curriculum, academically and personally; share and facilitate good practice with partner schools; enhance the involvement of governors and business partners and to provide improved sporting recreational and academic opportunity amongst three target cohorts of the 'Park Ward' district of the City of Lincoln. Partner Schools - Robert Pattinson School, North Hykeham (secondary); Monks Abbey School, Lincoln (primary), Ermine School, Lincoln (primary); Birchwood Juniors, Lincoln (primary); Bishop king CofE School, Lincoln (primary)Community Groups from within 'Park Ward' - Over 60s; Young People Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEETs); Families with Young Children Business Partners - Activities Away (Outdoor Centre), North Hykeham; Gambit Leisurewear, Kettering; Phil Emerenko PR consultancy, Nottingham, Lincoln City FC, Lincoln

The Capital Project. . . .
The combination of £20,000 independently fundraised by the school and a 'capital development' grant from DCSF of £100,000 will be invested in buildings and large scale resources to impact on all target groups of our designation. This will be channelled with other funds into the building of a specialist PE/Sport Science classroom and the regeneration of the expired sand-based Astroturf pitch at Lincoln City FC and adjacent to Sincil School. The funding aims to upgrade the current site to a 4G surface and enhance fencing and storage facilities. This is a joint project between Sincil School; LCFC and Football in the Community, which will be a catalyst to raising standards across the community through Sport. The Sincil School will have use of the facility for PE lessons, OHSL, fixtures and courses (see coaching academy) until 6pm, after which time the use of the surface will be open to community use through 'Football in the Community' and other projects. FiC will also manage the facility through evenings, weekends and school holidays. This addresses the need identified in our auditing for improved and increased outdoor space and provision for the teaching of High Quality PE.
How does this help our pupils?
